On my way, LA

By: Jared Brown

/ Hello, blog readers! My name is Jared Brown, and I was recently afforded a tremendous opportunity by the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication at Hofstra University to participate in the prestigious “Hofstra in LA” program. I am a senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in both mass media studies and rhetorical studies. I have to admit, at first, I was quite nervous about attending the first “Hofstra in LA” class session because no other mass media students are participating. After the class started, I made excellent friends and learned immensely from my classmates. Now, I am genuinely thrilled to partake in a program that enables students and professionals to network and learn from each other.

The media industry is rapidly evolving, and this trip will help me understand how the entertainment capital, Los Angeles, is adapting to new media and trends. Although I do not see myself living in Los Angeles, I do recognize the merit in traveling there to better understand the contemporary landscape of the media industry.

By being a mass media student, I am versatile and study the media business on a broad scale. I am eager to embark on this journey to Los Angeles because I know it will help me develop academically and professionally. In the end, I hope to acquire a stronger sense of my professional identity and make memories that I will carry with me for the duration of my career and lifetime.
