About

Since 2015, The Hofstra in L.A. program has allowed students to meet with leaders in media and entertainment. During the fall semester, these students attend a class that informs them about the industry, followed by a 10-day trip to California. The program gives students new perspectives on the fields of public relations, film, television, radio, and journalism.

In the classroom, students learn and teach one another topics including network ownership and distribution, promotion and target audiences, talent’s role in social causes, agentry, and content development. Additionally, they update their LinkedIn profiles to highlight their accomplishments. Each student is also responsible for an assignment throughout the trip including documentation, hospitality, social media, and website content.

Once in Los Angeles, the students take part in various meetings and tours and get a front row seat on how different aspects of Hollywood’s entertainment industry run. They also engage in a reception with Hofstra’s alumni to get their take on living and working in Los Angeles. During previous visits, the Hofstra in L.A. program has included stops at “Real Time with Bill Maher,” Warner Brothers studios, Magical Elves, Edelman PR, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” Dick Clark Productions, Westwood One, “Ellen,” and much, much more.

This website chronicles 19 students’ journey to Los Angeles from January 8-18, 2020.
