/ Hello everyone! My name is Julia Farella and I am a video/television and film major at Hofstra University. I’m from a small town in New Jersey called Marlboro. Pursuing a career in film and television has been a dream of mine since I was little. When I was in elementary school, I had a close family friend go to Boston University for television production. She would talk to me about her internships at college and has been a great mentor for me. One of the things she talked about was a program she went on in Los Angeles with her school and how it really helped her career. So when I went to Hofstra and learned about their Hofstra in L.A. program, I knew I had to apply for it. 

The career area I am most interested in is directing from television or film. In this year alone I have directed six shows for our Hofstra Entertainment Access Television Network. These shows have ranged from morning news, sports programming, and a late-night talk show. Los Angeles will be the perfect place for me to pursue this career due to the wide range of production facilities in the area. The main thing I am hoping to take away from this trip to Los Angeles is a better idea of what I want to do post-graduation. While I know my dream career is to be a director, I am unsure of what capacity I want that to be in whether it is for news broadcasting or for an episodic series. 

Living in New Jersey my whole life and going to school in New York, I have been able to experience amazing internships in New York City. Now that I am close to graduating, I am looking to explore other places of the country that are prominent in the entertainment industry. Los Angeles is where dreamers travel to make it big in entertainment and I feel that I am finally ready to take that leap. Get ready for me Los Angeles because I’m on my way!
