California is Calling

By: Emmeline Blaner

/ Hello! My name is Emmeline, and I am a senior at Hofstra studying television. Ever since my first visit in middle school, New York City was it for me. I loved the hustle and bustle, as well as staying true to my East Coast roots. However, during my past three and a half years here, I’ve started wondering what else is out there—do I want to spend my life in New York? Do I want to stay confined to one small stretch of the country forever? The past few years have struck me with wanderlust, and I want to explore all of the possibilities.

I’m excited to take the professional tips I’ve learned at Hofstra and apply them in Los Angeles. I’ve done all I can on my resume and LinkedIn, but networking is a skill I’d like to improve on. I think this trip will be a challenge for me, but one that will be rewarding in the end and make me a stronger person and professional. I’m also excited to learn more about my industry as well as others in the media field, since New York has given me exposure to working in news. I hope to learn more about the entertainment side of the industry and learn more about what aspect I see myself working in after college.

This trip will be my second time visiting California, and I was in awe when I went to San Francisco two years ago. The West Coast felt vibrant and free compared to the rooted, historic East. I’m excited to expand my horizons and explore a city I never thought I would go, and see what opportunities await in the City of Angels.

Will Los Angeles win me over as the place to build my career? Will I develop a love for avocado toast? Stay tuned to find out.
