New Beginnings

By: Heather Konefsky

/ I’m Heather Konefsky and I’m a junior video/television and business major at Hofstra. I grew up in a small town outside of Philadelphia where I dreamed about going to school in a big city. Two years ago, I never could have imagined going to L.A. for a job, but now, I can’t stop imaging what opportunities could be out there for me.

My dream has always been to work on a late-night show, but recently, I’ve been branching out to see what I really want to do in the future. I’ve always enjoyed working with kids and just landed my first internship at a children’s network in a hospital in New York City. Since before I even declared my major, I imagined myself as a director or producer in the future. I found a love for being a camera operator and stage manager during classes and recently for associate directing from working on shows on the HEAT Network, our school television network. The more I experience and the more I see others doing, the more I think I might want to try. With three semesters left of college, I desperately want to figure out a direction for my future. I’m not quite sure what I’m expecting to get out of this trip, but I hope to gain some clarity for the future and insight into what genre of television I want to work in or what position I’d want to work. I’ve also never been to the west coast or travelled without my family, so this trip will be full of firsts and I can’t wait to see what’s waiting for me in Los Angeles.
