Make Room for Us, LA!

By: Aliyah Dinkins

/ Greetings, all! My name is Aliyah Dinkins. I am a senior television production and studies major from the esteemed Lawrence Hebert School of Communication, minoring in creative writing. Some interesting things about me are that I am the president of the Hofstra dance team TranscenDANCE, I am a photographer, a former intern at ABC, and an avid watcher of Cartoon Network series.

As one who has never been to California before, let alone Los Angeles, I am ecstatic for our January trip. Our arrival date is creeping closer and closer, and I can hardly believe I am going! With that being said, there is still much preparation to be done. For instance, my business cards are still being delivered, my resume needs to be printed (many copies), I need to pack my business attire and, most of all, I need to write down my goals.

From what I know about the Hofstra in L.A. program is that its students are exposed to parts of the communications industry that they didn’t know existed, which triggers some to change their career paths all together. I am excited to broaden my perspective as a result of this trip. Some of my goals include: learning about life in California (living expenses, weather conditions, societal views), discovering any interest of mine that I don’t know I had, networking, learning about job opportunities, and having fun!

L.A., make room for Hofstra because we are coming!
